HAMPSHIRE, WILTSHIRE & ISLE OF WIGHT WALKING MAPS
This gorgeous chunk of England encapsulates everything that's best about walking in the countryside with its rolling heaths, leafy forests, chalk cliffs and smooth flowing rivers.
Head out along the peaceful wildlife-rich Avon Valley Path, which runs from the great cathedral city of Salisbury to the historic Priory at Christchurch. Or set off for the New Forest - not in fact new or a forest at all, but a patchwork of ancient woodland and open heathland which once served the kings and queens of England as royal hunting ground. Criss-crossed with miles of footpaths and waymarked ways, studded with stocky New Forest ponies and punctuated with peaceful market towns and picturesque villages, it is the perfect place to forget the car for the day and explore the gentle countryside on foot.
Less than a mile from the mainland across the Solent, yet worlds apart, the Isle of Wight with its stunning scenery and tranquil atmosphere was a favourite haunt of Queen Victoria, and retains much of its Victorian charm today. Laced with footpaths and long-distance trails, and encircled by a stunning 64-mile coastal path, it is also a popular destination for walkers and the venue for the largest walking festival in the UK.
